The 8 year war ended with the signing of the Peace of Paris on September 3, 1783, a stunning victory for the new nation which led to the birth of an empire on the North American continent. Part five of a twelve-part series presenting a comprehensive overview of the American Revolution covering the fifty-year time period from 1750 to 1800. This series examines the lives of the most influential Founders, and the presidency of George Washington, ending with the presidency of John Adams.

PART FIVE: THE CONSITUTIONAL CONVENTION OF 1787: By the 1780’s it wasbecoming very obvious to most observers of the new fledging American nation that the Articles of Confederation, the document written and passed by the Continental Congress, would NOT be an adequate legal and constitution guide for the U.S.A. With the strong encouragement of Alexander Hamilton & James Madison a movement began in the mid 1780’s to hold a convention to re-write the Articles of Confederation. However, instead of a re-write, the Constitutional Convention that met May-September 1787 at Independence Hall in Philadelphia totally scrapped the Articles of Confederation and wrote the U.S. Constitution, a much more robust and brilliant document that has stood the test of time for 250 years as the constitutional & legal framework for our nation.

PART FIVE: THE PRESIDENCY OF GEORGE WASHINGTON : G.W. was the Indispensable Man who led our nation through the Revolutionary War and to a great victory for Great Britain. He was then the Indispensable Man who served as the President of the Constitution Convention.
