Even though ginger root is traditionally grown in tropical regions such as Hawaii, it can be grown in Minnesota if the right growing conditions are provided. Here at Sapsucker Farms, ginger root is sprouted in the greenhouse starting in February. It is transplanted out in the hoop house in mid-May, then harvested in November. The majority of ginger grown here on the farm is used in our Yellow Belly ginger hard cider. But whatever is left over will be available for purchase here on the farm. We do not ship the ginger, nor is it mature enough to use for growing stock.
